  • Drivers Mate

    DHL, an award-winning leading supply chain business is seeking a Drivers Mate to play a vital role in our distribution service.

    WHAT DOES THE ROLE ENTAIL?

    *Please note these roles involve the manual handling of beers, wines and spirits*

    As part of your normal duties, whilst maintaining excellent health and safety practices, you will:

    • Manual handling of beer kegs, wines and spirits
    • Be available to cover start times bewteeen 04:00-06:00
    • Accompany a driver to delivery points where you will assist with unloading deliveries to licensed premises
    • Maintain regular contact with the Transport team and advise of all problems which may prevent the job being completed on time and without incident
    • Complete relevant processes on an electronic handheld device

    WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?

    • High levels of manual handling are required so you need to be physically fit
    • Previous experience of the preparation, distribution and handling of volume orders
    • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload
    • Ability to read, understand and follow directions/instructions
    • Ability to count accurately and to perform simple maths calculations
    • Previous practical experience as a Driver’s Mate, within a logistics or similar environment would be preferable
  • PG Driver 

    Salary – basic salary £46,953.60
    A full bespoke training package will be provided.

    As a Packaged Gases Driver, you will:
    Adherence to all safety rules, processes, and procedures, as safety is a condition of employment.
    Deliver our products safely in accordance with legal requirements and our own safe working procedures.
    Pre & Post vehicle check in-line with DVSA guidelines, and Air Products standards, which may change from time-to-time.
    Loading, unloading and all other activities associated with product management in-line with ‘Dist Man PG Specific – working instructions’ available via ‘RTL Knowledgebase app’
    Successful completion of all LearnEx and regulatory training as required.
    Maintain tachograph infringement level in-line with DVSA/Traffic commissioner expectations, and Air Products standards, whereby regular feedback, monitoring and coaching will be provided to ensure full compliance.
    Role requirements:
    LGV 1 license (HGV Class 1/C+E unrestricted)
    operating the class of vehicle that will be operated at Air Products upon employment.
    Valid (in date) ADR Training Certificate 2,3, 5 and 8 minimum (refreshed every 5 years) preferred
    Valid (in date) Driver’s CPC Qualification Card (DQC) and evidence of current Periodic Training Status
    FLT qualification (desirable, not essential)
    Proven track record of working within a safety-first environment.
    Able to work under own initiative with excellent communication skills.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Check, load, and deliver customer orders on predetermined routes utilising Asset Tracking Devices.
    • Ensure products are transported under correct conditions, maintaining temperature, cleanliness, and security.
    • Represent the company professionally as a visible face to customers and the public.
    • Carry out all required safety checks on your allocated vehicle and equipment.

    In this role you will be required to stand and walk for the majority of your shift, as well as needing to be able to lift (products up to 15kg), bend, twist, kneel, and crouch.

    Key Role Responsibilities

    We don’t micromanage our drivers. We trust them to get the job done and plan their own routes. This job involves trunking to regional hubs on the night shift. So, if you like the independence of being out on the open road for long stretches – but also want to be home again at the end of every 9-hour shift, this is the job for you.

    You’ll make sure Cages, Pallets, Freight, Stillages and Yorks get to and from customers bang on time. At some sites, the goods will be loaded or unloaded for you – at others, you’ll need to do it yourself. Scanning consignments and driving pallet trucks will sometimes be part of your day.

    You’ll be responsible for inspecting your vehicle and trailer every day and complete a Defect Report if necessary.

    You will make sure everything is ‘right first time’ for your customers, both internal and external, and as a great communicator, you’ll work hard to keep customers happy, making sure any queries you can’t answer, are passed on to your site manager quickly.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Class 1 Driving licence as a minimum
    • Driver CPC qualification card
    • Completed required DCPC training hours or be working towards them
    • Excellent knowledge of Road Transport Laws – and commitment to safe use of the roads

    Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £13.35 an hour; this increases to £14.56 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location

    It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we have opportunities for this too and would still love to hear from you.

    The table shows the periods of time in the week we’d like you to be available to work – the availability windows.
