  • Wellbeing Driver

    Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

    Pay: £13.10 per hour

    Main Purpose of the Job:

    • To drive the Home’s vehicle(s) when required for residents’ outings; to collect and deliver people or goods and; take responsibility for ensuring that all maintenance checks,- necessary records and routine vehicle checks relating to the vehicle(s) are kept up to date.
    • When not required for driving duties, to work within the wellbeing team implementing a varied programme of individualised and group activities and outings appropriate to residents’ needs, requests and abilities.
    • To ensure whilst carrying out the role, that at all times residents are treated with respect and dignity and that individual’s rights to privacy, independence and choices are met. To maintain a person-centred atmosphere within the home through caring communication and considerate behaviour.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. To drive the Home’s vehicles for the purpose of residents’ outings.

    2. To use the Homes’ vehicles for the delivery and collection of residents, staff and good as required and under the direction of the Deputy Manager.

    3. To ensure safe operation of all aspects of the vehicles including but not limited to safe boarding/alighting, securing of wheelchairs etc in accordance with health & safety legislation and moving & handling procedures.

    4. To support the Wellbeing Coordinators in the running of trips.

    5. To plan journeys including advanced access/parking arrangements.

    6. To ensure vehicles are appropriately cleaned/maintained/roadworthy, fueled and has relevant tax and insurance in place.

    7. When not driving to work in support of the Wellbeing Coordinators.

    8. To undertake such other duties as may be required and which are consistent with the nature of this post.

    Person Specification

    Essential behaviours / characteristics:

    • Good verbal English language communication skills
    • Flexible and punctual including willingness to work weekends / evenings to facilitate trips (subject to prior planning and agreement)
    • Physically fit enough to carry out all tasks which may include manual handling (such as porterage)

    Essential experience:

    • Clean driving licence and willingness to obtain the MIDAS qualification (if not already held)

    Desirable experience:

    • An understanding of the needs of older people and the concept of ‘person centred’ approach.

    Salary: £26,000 – £28,000

    The post holder will provide a Portering and Transport service to the wards and departments of the Royal Alexandra Hospital and to other Greater Glasgow & Clyde sites and locations.

    The post holder will report to the Support Services Manager through the Portering Transport Supervisors and the Assistant Portering & Transport Manager.

    The post holder will work within clearly defined protocols, procedures and schedules, adhering to all Board policies e.g. Health & Safety, Control of Infection and Confidentiality.

    After initial induction and training, the post holder will work under the Portering & Transport Supervisors, who will also provide guidance and support. The post holder will have a Personal Development Plan.

    Salary = £66,343.68 per annum

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform regular vehicle checks to ensure roadworthiness
    • Ensuring trailers temperatures are set correctly
    • Adhere to all traffic laws and road safety regulations
    • Ensure compliance with Tachograph and Road Transport Directive Legislation
    • Deliver products to Sainsbury stores and supplier collections in a timely and professional manner throughout the Southeast region including London.
    • Work as trained and in line with Risk Assessments during your duties
    • Ensuring the internal and external cleanliness of the vehicle is maintained at all times
    • Report any incidents, delays, or vehicle defects promptly
    • Report any health and safety concerns or near-miss incidents
    • Attending any relevant training as required to ensure you remain fully equipped to perform your role effectively and to assist in the development of continuous improvement.

    What you will bring to the team:

    • Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) driving license with no more than 6 penalty points

    Who needs a 9 – 5 anyway?

    Our drivers commit to a varying shift pattern over 24 hours, 7 days a week to keep our services running, so you’ll need to be disciplined, punctual, reliable and ready to go at any time of the day! As this role is safety critical, you’ll need to be able to get to your depot within a maximum of 60 minutes commute time. Drivers work an average 35 hours over 4 days a week, however, during training you will work 40.5 hours over 5 days a week.
